About Pianos
The Piano is a musical instrument, arguably, the most perfect musical instrument there is. On a piano, the player can perform all elements of music; rhythm, melody and harmony. The versatility of the piano is why it is so widely used in all genres of music ranging from Classical, to Gospel, to Jazz, to Soul, to Rock, to Country, just to name a few.
Pianos come in all shapes and sizes but generally fall into 2 catagories: Grands and Verticals. Grand pianos is what we usually see players use in concerts or large churches and used as the showcase piece of finer home decors. Since the piano lays horizonally, it us common to see Grand pianos extend from 5 to 9 foot. To simply put it, the bigger the piano is the bigger the sound is.
Verticals stand upright and are usually placed against the wall. There are 4 height ranges verticals can be grouped in. The smallest is around 37" tall and called a spinet. Spinets are designed to be a starter or learner piano. Next, the console piano stands around 41-43" tall. These are the most common home piano because thier cabinets are the most ornate. The studio piano stands 45 to 48" tall and are commonly found in churches, schools and homes of players with advanced skills. Anything taller than a studio piano is commonly referred to as just an upright, or sometimes, antique upright.
